“Blue Christmas”, also called “the Longest Night”, in the Western Christian tradition, is a day in the Advent season marking the longest night of the year.  On this day, Christians hold a church service that honors people who have lost loved ones and are experiencing grief.  This worship service is traditionally held on or around the longest night of the year, which falls on December 21st, the Winter Solstice.  It is also the traditional feast day for St. Thomas the Apostle, which gives connection between St. Thomas’s struggle to believe in Jesus’ resurrection, the long nights just before Christmas, and the struggle with darkness and grief faced by those living with loss or pain.

We at Grace will observe this meaningful tradition on Monday, December 21st, 7 PM, with a live-streamed service featuring readings, music, prayers, and candles in memory of loved ones.  It will also be a time to recognize those who are in pain because of illness, work stress, or depression.

If persons have requests for prayers or candles, please fill out your request here in the google document, and your needs will be held up during the service.
