This unique visual exhibit was shown at St Michael’s Discoed in England, last year during their annual Seven Last Words art show.

Grace Church has been given permission by St. Michael’s to share this exhibit in a 25 minute slideshow that will be available online with high resolution copies of each artwork that was included in the original exhibition. The exhibit, curated by Charles MacCarthy, sees fourteen pieces of art created by artists who were asked to respond to the 7 last words of Jesus on the Cross. Each of the seven 'Words' have been interpreted by two different artists. Furthermore, the band Thine Worship has granted permission for Grace to pair their album “Seven Last Words of Jesus” with the art.

Curator Charles MacCarthy had this to say on the exhibit, “We are excited at the prospect of continuing our tradition of Lent exhibitions which have proved to be thought-provoking, challenging and also very well received. Combining the freedom and the commitment of artistic practice with questions of universal significance, raised by the figure of Jesus Christ, is I believe, a valuable thing to do. This exhibition offers an opportunity to explore deeper issues through the medium of art and narrative. Encouraging complete freedom of interpretation, as we always have in Discoed, has resulted in a wide range of types of work, which has been much appreciated by the large numbers of visitors. The Seven Last Words are spoken in the face of death. This is difficult and painful. But perhaps the making of something beautiful like a work of art is one way of opening up the dialogue”.
