A Holy Week Organ Recital
Tuesday, April 7, 2020, Noon
Works to be performed include Bach, Pachelbel, Walther, and contemporary hymn settings by Gilbert Martin, Peter Stearns, and Dale Wood.
The Grace UMC Kimball organ was installed in 1925 in conjunction with the churches building project which enlarged the 1903 original structure. After years of "aging", the organ was almost completely rebuilt in 1984 by the Dan Garland Company, resulting in a larger instrument, boasting 28 ranks (a rank is a set of pipes for each key on the keyboard within a particular instrument family: flutes, principals, reeds and mixtures).
The three-manual (a manual is a keyboard played with hands) and pedalboard (an enlarged keyboard played with feet) control the air flow to the pipes from a draw-knob console. Probably the last surviving Kimball organ in North Texas, and maybe all of Texas, the organ is still a powerful instrument, fully capable of accompanying hymn-singing at full volume, or providing quiet meditative music for prayers.
